1610 - Spanish establish new colonial capital at Santa Fe

    As the English colonists are struggling to survive in Jamestown, the Spanish, who by now number in the tens of thousands in Mexico City, establish a new colonial outpost in the town of Santa Fe.

        Two thousand miles to the east, the invasion of North America was formally inaugurated when a fleet of ships carrying 800 men, women, and children set sail from England to join the vanguard in Jamestown.  By 1616, fifty acres were given to every colonist who migrated to Virginia at his own cost.  http://www.thesantafesite.com/history.html
