1838 - Cherokee removal continues

      Cherokee in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee are marched at gunpoint to the new Indian Territory in Oklahoma as the Removal Era gathers momentum.

       Sixteen thousand Cherokee are marched in Winter to their new homelands in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma.  The journey saw thousands die, and will become known as the infamous Trail of Tears.  For more, see: 1829 - Indian Removal gathers momentum.
