1805 - Lewis and Clark reach the Pacific Ocean

        The Corps of Discovery spends a cold, wet winter at Fort Clatsop on the Oregon coast near the mouth of the Columbia River, before returning to St. Louis in the spring and summer of 1806, arriving back in St. Louis in September.
